Below are a list of (mostly) free resources that your EU librarians have compiled for your exploration. But remember these resources generally require more time to evaluate and navigate than the resources available in the research databases accessed through the EU Library homepage.

CPAdirectory – Comprehensive national online directory of licensed accountants.

Finance

Export-Import Bank of the United States – Provides financing assistance and insurance for the export of United States goods and services to international markets

PayPal – PayPal allows members to send money without sharing financial information by using their account balances, bank accounts, credit cards or promotional financing.

VentureDeal – Provides information about venture capital, venture-backed technology companies, venture capital firms and transactions in the United States.

Franchising

American Association of Franchisees and Dealers – National non-profit trade association representing the rights and interests of franchisees and independent dealers in the United States.

Franchise.com – Search tool for finding businesses for sale and resource for franchise information, news and other resources.

Franchise Gator– Search tool for identifying the industry, state and investment levels available.

General Business

Better Business Bureau – For businesses, the site provides access to advertising review services, training and a resource library.

GAO (Government Accountability Office) – The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) is an independent, nonpartisan agency that works for Congress. Often called the “congressional watchdog,” GAO investigates how the federal government spends taxpayer dollars. The link provided goes to the GAO’s reports and testimonies page with topics listed in categories, though you can search by keyword or government agency also. Topics cover all areas of government spending such as health care, energy, business regulation, transportation, space, homeland security, and much, much more.

Survey of Current Business – Charts, tables of regional, national, international and industrial business data.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce – The U.S. Chamber of Commerce represents the interests of more than 3 million businesses as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.

U.S. Copyright Office – Site allows online registration and includes links to the copyright law as well as to the homepages of other copyright-related organizations and the online copyright records database.

U.S. Patent and Trademark Office – Federal agency for granting U.S. patents and registering trademarks..

Marketing

Adweek Online – Strategies, innovations and ideas from traditional advertising to topics ranging from new media to pop culture and design.

BizBuySell – Contains listings of over 45,000 businesses for sale and database of sale comparables for recently sold businesses and franchise directory.

BrandChannel.com – Offers tools and information including global listings of conferences, courses and careers as well as links to valuable industry resources.

Chief Marketer – Provides insights into key marketing issues, innovations and practical solutions and provides stories and commentary. Visitors can search by marketing disciplines and the industries to which they market.

Direct Marketing Association – Global trade association of businesses and nonprofit organizations that advocates industry standards for responsible marketing. The DMA provides research education and networking opportunities.

Small Business

Business Owner’s Tool Kit – Includes more than 5,000 pages of cost-cutting tips, step-by-step checklists, case studies, startup advice and templates for small business owners and entrepreneurs. Also include are a monthly newsletter, news topics and a business advice column that provides advice.

Business Week: Small Biz – Bloomberg’s Small Business webpage will provide you with current business news, links to business related videos, franchise info and more.

Entrepreneur.com: The Online Small Business Authority – Includes basics on starting up a business, business ideas and advice on getting financing.

Entrepreneur’s Reference Guide to Small Business Information – Bibliography of how to guides and reference books and directories useful to the budding entrepreneur.

Entrepreneurship.org – Resources to assist entrepreneurs, business mentors, policy makers, academics and investors through each phase of the entrepreneurial process.

Fambiz.com – Provides a search engine to hundreds of articles written by experts in the field of family business.

Export-Import Bank of the United States – Provides financing assistance and insurance for the export of United States goods and services to international markets.

Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU) – Small Business Resource Center designed to assist small business owners understand the rules and regulations the Department administers.

Riley Guide: Steps in Starting Your Own Business – Advice for starting up, financing and staffing a business as well as job search and resume/cover letter preparation advice and tips.

SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) – Provides advice from retired executives for planning, starting and managing a small business.

Startup Nation – Includes advice for starting a small business, articles and small business and entrepreneur forums as well as interest groups and opportunities for networking..

U.S. Small Business Administration – Provides resources for starting and managing a business, small business loans and resources for working with the government and contracting opportunities, counseling and training.

Women in Entrepreneurship

Florida Women’s Business Center – The Florida Women’s Business Center provides counseling, resources such as online links and newsletters as well as events for women entrepreneurs.

Catalyst – Advisory Services group, Information Center and Speakers Bureau as well as Corporate Board Services

National Association of Women Business Owners – The NAWBO promotes economic development, facilitating innovative and effective change within the entrepreneurial community by forging strategic alliances, coalitions and affiliations and through influencing public policy.
