While we always like it when students use the library databases to find information, sometimes the easiest place to locate something is actually out on the web! For example, government or country information like statistics are easily located on government websites. This is true even for countries outside the United States!
Today a student came in and asked for help locating urbanization statistics for two different countries. My suggestion? The CIA World Factbook. The World Factbook is a reference resource produced by the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States with almanac-style information about the countries of the world. The information is similar to what you would find through an almanac at the library, but it’s very easy to access and use. The CIA World Factbook is located here: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/
Once you’re on the World Factbook homepage, you can select a country from a drop down menu to see more information about a particular nation.
Clicking on any of the tabs will bring up information about that section. For urbanization statistics, click on the “People and Society Tab”.
You can see the statistics on urbanization below:
The World Factbook has a lot of information, so be sure to check it out! Questions? Contact your librarians!
